Hong Zhang is a master instructor majoring in material and physics, and in charge of the electron microscopy in-situ equipment in the electron microscopy center of Yunnan University. Hong is Secretary General of the Electron Microscopy Society of Northwest China's four provinces and the executive director. Her main research interests include atomic scale structure and electronic structure of functional materials, R&D and application of electron microscope in-situ scientific research instruments, development of nano-welding technology and research on welding mechanism. She has published 21 papers as the first author or corresponding author, and has obtained 7 authorized invention patents and 7 invention patents under examination. Currently presided over more than 10 projects of various types, including 2 National Natural Science Foundation of China and 2 Gansu Provincial Natural Science Foundation.

I am an Associate Professor in School of Materials and Energy, Yunnan University. I studied my Bachelor, Master, and Doctor degrees (Supervised by Prof. Yaming Wang) in Harbin Institute of Technology from 2005 to 2015. I moved to University of Manchester in early 2016 and worked as a postdoctoral Research Associate in Prof. Ian Kinloch’s group. I joined Yunnan University in 2021 as an Associate Professor. My research interest is focused on electrochemical energy storage materials, particularly graphene and other 2D materials.

主要研究方向为计算材料学，即运用第一性原理计算结合高通量和机器学习方法在材料、化学和物理领域对新型纳米材料的结构性质进行理论计算和模拟, 提炼材料设计与性能优化准则，预测和筛选新型高效廉价光电化学反应催化剂，具体包括析氢反应（HER），析氧反应（OER），氧还原反应（ORR），氮气还原反应（NRR）,二氧化碳/一氧化碳还原反应（CRR）和选择性氢化等反应。同时开展实验研究，将理论预测结果与实验相结合，开发出一系列运用于催化和能源转换相关反应的廉价高效催化剂。
